February Bulletin – 2023

As notified in the extra bulletin sent out a couple of weeks ago, the potatoes, summer onions and shallots supplier was having delivery issues and couldn’t bring them as scheduled.  However, they will be ready for collection this coming weekend, 4th/5th February (open 10.30 – 12).  Do come to collect your orders as soon as you can. If you didn’t order, we did get a few extras but when they’re gone they’re gone. Contact Sheila if you have a problem –  Tel 01942 716925 / 07931270056 / graham_red@yahoo.co.uk

Show Sponsorship.

The Show sponsorship lists are open.  We could not put on the show without sponsorship and donations. All donations are gratefully received and we would invite Association members to sponsor one or more classes in the show e.g., a vegetable or flower class that is a particular favourite in memory of a loved one who has passed away. If you would like to sponsor one or more fruit, vegetable or flower classes in the 2023 show, the list is available at the Hut and is £6 per class. If any of you are part of an organisation who might be willing to sponsor our show, please let us know. A business/organisation can sponsor any amount, or a minimum of £25 for a small advert in the Show schedule.

Trips.

The trip lists are also open. As there wasn’t a lot of  interest last year, we are trying just two this year and we’ll see how it goes.

The Shrewsbury Flower Show – Saturday 12th August  £40.  The cut-off date to book (and pay) for this is June 25th. If we haven’t got a reasonably full coach by that time, the entry fee becomes more expensive as it gets nearer the show date, so we would have to cancel. Also, RHS Bridgewater – September/October (make own way there).  Date to be confirmed but it will be late September /early October.  This one is free but you still need to register your interest at the Hut.

More Potatoes.

Finally, Preston Potato Day at Brighter Blooms (Walton Flats Nursery, Walton-le-Dale, PR5 4AX) is on again on Sunday 12th February, 10 – 2.  Besides potatoes and onions, there are fruit bushes & trees, rhubarb & strawberry plants, dahlia tubers, gladioli corms and other summer flowering bulbs. Hot drinks and homemade cakes will be on sale to raise funds for Rosemere Cancer Foundation and Motivation Romania. More details at www.growvegandfruit.co.uk.
