September 2024 Bulletin

Before I give details about the Show, just a reminder about the Hut orders.  The list was sent out as an Extra bulletin a fortnight ago, so this is a reminder that the spuds/onions/shallots need to be ordered by October 6th, directly to Sheila at 07931270056 or graham_red@yahoo.co.uk

Now to the main September event. Our annual Flower & Vegetable Show is Saturday September 14th, so only a week  to go!  Are you coming?  We’re at Crownway Community Centre, Crown Street, Earlestown, WA12 9DA.

It’s only 20p to put in each exhibit and please don’t think you’re not good enough to do it – only those who are in it can win it and sometimes the winner could easily have been beaten if there’d been enough competition.

So, the formalities. Exhibitors can set up on Friday night (13th) 6.30-8.30pm (Please note this finishes earlier than previous years) or on Saturday morning 8 – 10.30am. You can ring in your entries to Marj our Show Secretary (07805407475) or send her an email to nlwgashow@aol.com up until 8pm on the Thursday night. Or just turn up on the Friday or Saturday at these times.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, ask any of the stewards. All vases are provided, the only container not provided is Class 69 the basket/trug for the mixed garden produce, bring your own for that one.  All the details are in the schedule and if you didn’t get to the Hut in time, it’s downloadable on our website – www.nlwgardeners.co.uk. There’ll also be some available for you to take when you come on Friday/Saturday.  You can see photos of Shows over the last few years on the website too.

If you’re coming to see what you’ve won, or to have a good look round at all the exhibits whether you’ve entered or not, doors open at 2pm and it’s free.  Parking is in the streets surrounding the Centre and there is a car park just a little way down the street. The cafe will be open where you can buy tea, coffee and lots of homemade cakes; and there’s also the tombola as always.
Presentation of awards and prizes will start at 4pm as well as the draw for the raffle which once again have an impressive selection of prizes. Any produce that hasn’t been reserved by the exhibitors, we ask that you leave in place, we will be donating these to the local food bank.
All clearing away of produce by the exhibitors will not be allowed until the presentation of awards has been completed. And if you want to stay behind and help us clear up, that would be wonderful.

Don’t forget, the Hut is NOT open on the day of the Show but will be open as usual on the Sunday (15th) following.

That’s it, I hope to see you all then as a visitor or as an exhibitor or both, do come, it’s a fun afternoon out and you’ll be supporting your community too.
