August 2024 Bulletin

At the Hut on Saturday August 24th, it will be Tomato Tasting Day. Bring along up to 5 varieties that you’ve grown and we’ll all try them out. Tea and coffee provided too.

Let’s talk about OUR biggest event of the year – the annual Flower & Vegetable Show.  Have a look at the schedule if you haven’t already done so, there’s sure to be something you can do, you’ve just may never have thought about it.  The schedule can be downloaded from our website www.nlwgardeners.co.uk or there are hard copies at the Hut that you can collect.   Any queries about anything to do with the Show, see someone at the Hut or contact me and we can point you in the right direction – how to present onions, display your cakes, arrange your dahlias etc (we provide all the vases so you don’t have to bring your own like you do in some other shows.)  I’m sure we can sort out any problems.
If you don’t want to exhibit, how about sponsoring a class or two? Perhaps in memory of someone?  It only costs a few £pounds.  If you fancy doing this, call in to the Hut and you can see the full list and select which you’d like.
And you can always volunteer an hour or two to help us set up on the Friday evening before, or dismantle on the Saturday of the Show, any help would be very much appreciated.
Please come and support the Show in whatever way you can do, we look forward to seeing you there on Saturday 14th September.  Don’t forget, the Hut WON’T be open on that day.

A few local gardening events to tell you about this month.
On Saturday 3rd the Shevington Gardening Club will be hosting their annual summer show. Their schedule is available from https://e-voice.org.uk/shevingtongarden
The following day, Sunday 4th, will be the Knowsley Flower Show at Court Hey Park in Huyton and their details are available at: www.knowsleyflowershow.com.

Finally, if you want to go on the Harlow Carr trip next Wednesday, this weekend is your last opportunity to come in and book/pay for your place. The Hut is open 10.30 – 12 as usual.
