Newton Le Willows Gardeners Association
@ The Hut

This coming weekend we will be open as usual but we’ll also be adding an extra day as we did last year. We will be open on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th, 10.30-12, with tea and cake. However, we won’t be opening on Bank Holiday Monday May 26th this year.
It has been decided that though there’s still a low number of people signed up for the Bridgemere trip on May 14th, it is going ahead! There are spaces, so if you want to book in right up to the weekend before, please do, just come into the Hut and pay.
The greenhouse still has plenty of bedding plants and vegetable seedlings. The bacopas and fuchsias have gone but there’s plenty of other bedding plants still available – newly added gazania, nicotiana and petunia as well as different colours of diascia, nemesia, calibrachoa, dahlietta, scaevola, osteospermums, impatiens and begonias. There are also some small hanging baskets, readymade for you at £6.
The committee and other members have been growing some of the vegetables and bringing in their leftovers – this is why when you might come in asking for a certain variety, we’re never quite sure until they arrive. For instance, if you’re looking for tomatoes and when you come in one day you can’t find any variety that you like, it may be that if you come back another day, someone will have donated some – always worth a quick trip to check. There are also a few herbaceous perennials and irises on the bench outside the polytunnel.
If you do want any of the bedding or veg plants, do bring your own container to take them away if you can.
A short e-bulletin this month but then, we’re all busy in the garden/allotment at this time of year – happy planting!
